historical milestones

In 1891 Nathan B. Handy founded N.B. Handy Company as a supplier of metals, metal fabricating machinery and hardware materials for the roofing and general sheet metal trades around Lynchburg, Virginia.

N.B. Handy continues to grow through World War I and the Great Depression to become a regional supplier of materials through much of western Virginia, West Virginia, and western North Carolina.


After World War II ended, a new market for warm air heating and air conditioning systems emerged. N.B. Handy Company quickly responded by adding materials for this new market while continuing to serve the roofing and sheet metal trades.


N.B. Handy expands to Roanoke and opens its first branch there.


N.B. Handy quickly expands with the establishment of locations in Raleigh and Greensboro, North Carolina and Richmond, Virginia. In 1974, a steel processing center is established in Lynchburg, Virginia.


Three more N.B. Handy locations were established in Norfolk, Virginia, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Greenville, South Carolina.


The company continued its history of successful growth through the balance of the 90′s, establishing facilities in Capitol Heights and Baltimore, Maryland, Atlanta, Georgia and Columbia, South Carolina..


N.B. Handy because the exclusive rep/distributor for Carlisle SynTec Single Ply Roofing Systems in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.


The machinery division was established to focus on sheet metal fabricating machinery sales and service.



By this year N.B. Handy Company had 12 branches, expanding north to Maryland and as far south as Atlanta, Georgia

N.B. Handy opens its first branch in Florida. N.B. Handy begins representing Fabral Metal Wall and Roofing Systems, offering a complete line of Architectural Metals featuring the private label, Sentriclad.


Nordyne, leading manufacturer of heating and cooling systems, awarded N.B. Handy Kelvinator Distributor status.


Nordyne awards N.B. Handy with Westinghouse distributorship in almost half of their existing markets.


A new sales and distribution center opens in Nashville, TN. N.B. Handy entered into an agreement with GAF for single ply roofing products for commercial applications in Georgia.


In October 2007, N.B. Handy acquired Morris Ginsberg & Company expanding the company’s commercial roofing services and creating a platform to launch residential roofing.


N.B. Handy launches Sentrigard metal Roofing Systems, a fully integrated system of contractor-manufactured metal roofing that combines the equipment, accessories, and warranty to meet the expanding needs of contractors.


N.B. Handy restructured the organization and moved from a General Manager matrix to Area Sales Manager. N.B. Handy expands the Sentrigard Metal roofing systems brand by launching Sentrigard HT-SA Underlayment.


In response to an unprecedented collapse in the construction building materials industry due to the downturn in the economy, the Nashville distribution center and Florida branches (Boca Raton and Orlando) were closed. However, these areas continue to be serviced through Atlanta and Columbia branches. N.B. Handy opens a new branch location for Morris Ginsberg in Chantilly, Virginia to serve the commercial and residential roofing customers in Northern Virginia.


N.B. Handy expands the Sentrigard brand by launching Sentrigard SYN Underlayment.


N.B. Handy opens a new HVAC branch and new Morris Ginsberg branch in Hanover, Maryland to serve Roofing and HVAC customers in Maryland.



N.B. Handy opens new HVAC Branch in Chantilly, VA and renovates the branch counter showroom areas of Richmond, Raleigh, Greensboro, Charlotte, and Columbia.

N.B. Handy opens new full-service Branch in Norcross, Georgia.


Morris Ginsberg, a subsidiary of N.B. Handy sold.


Rosana Chaidez appointed as CEO.


In February 2018, N.B. Handy acquired The Royce Company, a manufacturer of residential ductwork and fittings for wholesale HVAC suppliers and Heating and Air Contractors and specialty sheet metal products.
